Concrete Pool Painting, Coating and Resurfacing in Auckland
Concrete pool painting in Auckland is a job that punishes shortcuts. Between the UV, the salt water, the chlorine load, and the temperature swings, concrete pool surfaces break down faster than most owners expect - and the wrong product or a rushed prep job just accelerates that cycle. The Pool Savers handles everything from a straightforward repaint through to full resurfacing or replastering where the surface genuinely needs it.
Why Concrete Pools Need Specialist Painting and Coating
Concrete is porous by nature. Left uncoated, or coated with an unsuitable or failing product, it can absorb water, pool chemicals, and algae into the surface layer - leading to staining, algae growth, water penetration, and deterioration of the surface or plaster layer.
But the product is only half the equation. On concrete, surface preparation is the variable that determines how long any coating lasts. Thorough cleaning, correct drying time, addressing cracks and failing areas, and managing moisture in the substrate before any paint goes on - skip any of those steps and even a premium coating will fail early. Where the existing surface condition requires it, more extensive mechanical preparation is also carried out. See the full detail on our epoxy coating page.
Concrete Pool Resurfacing Auckland: When a Repaint Is Not Enough
A repaint works well when the underlying surface is sound. When it isn't, painting over a failing substrate just delays the problem. These are signs that more extensive repairs or resurfacing may be required:
Exposed aggregate showing through the worn surface
Widespread delamination or sections of coating that are lifting or hollow-sounding
Rough texture that scratches skin or snags swimwear
White chalky patches (efflorescence) on the walls or floor
Cracking that extends into the plaster layer, not just the surface coating
When these issues are present, more extensive repairs or resurfacing may be the right approach. The Pool Savers will assess the condition at quote stage and recommend the appropriate scope rather than automatically specifying a full resurfacing. Full detail on the replastering side is on our plastering and resurfacing page.
Pool Repainting: Refreshing a Concrete Pool That Was Previously Painted
The most common cause of early failure in a repainted pool is applying new paint over an old coat that was already failing. Compatible coatings in good condition can be overcoated with proper preparation; incompatible or failing coatings may need to be removed, either in the affected areas or completely, depending on their condition and adhesion.
The Pool Savers checks the existing paint system before quoting - understanding what was applied previously, testing adhesion, and being honest about what preparation is actually required.
High-Performance Epoxy Pool Coating for Concrete Surfaces
We apply Rust-Oleum 9100 - a two-part epoxy system that chemically cures to form a hard, non-porous surface. A minimum of three sprayed coats on every concrete pool, backed by a three-year product guarantee and a three-year workmanship warranty. For the full breakdown of the product and how we apply it, the epoxy coating page covers everything in detail.
Concrete Pool Painting for Home, School, and Commercial Pools
We work with homeowners, schools, and commercial facilities across Auckland. The approach is tailored to each context - residential pools ready before summer, school pools scheduled around holidays, and commercial facilities coated to handle heavy use. See home pools, school pools, or commercial pools for detail on each.
Pool Restoration: Plaster Repairs Through to Full Replastering
Some concrete pools need more than a recoat. The Pool Savers coordinates targeted plaster repairs through to full replastering, surface preparation, and epoxy coating as one complete restoration process. Full detail on the plastering page.
Concrete vs Fibreglass
The preparation and coating approach is quite different for each surface type. This page covers concrete. If your pool is fibreglass, the fibreglass page covers what you need to know.
